Syria Will Place UN Peace Forces In The Goal Supporting Zone
JAKARTA - The new Syrian authorities have approved the deployment of UN peacekeepers in the buffer zone of the Golan Heights near the border with Israel, said new Syrian administration leader Ahmad al-Sharaa.
"We are ready to accept UN troops in the buffer zone so that the situation can return to the way it was before the Israeli attack," al-Sharaa said in talks with the Qatari delegation in Damascus, as quoted by Al-Jazeera as reported by ANTARA from Sputnik-OANA, Thursday, January 16.
Israel, continued al-Sharaa, no longer has a reason to move further into the buffer zone.
Israel went deep into the buffer zone under the pretext of Iranian formation there. With the release of Damascus, this reason is no longer relevant," he added.
