The Former Localization Area Of Gang Royal Becomes A Park, Acting Governor Of DKI: Gives A Sense Of Security
JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Teguh Setyabudi inspected the arrangement of the former Gang Royal localization area on Rawabek Selatan Street, Penjaringan, North Jakarta.
Teguh said, control in the former Gang Royal area was carried out in stages from 2020 to 2023 involving various stakeholders.
Control efforts carried out include raids on commercial sex workers and sellers of illegal liquor, sealing other cafes and illegal buildings, confiscation of illegal goods, and controlling 150 permanent and semi-permanent buildings.
"Then, the DKI Provincial Government developed this area into a green open space in the form of a park equipped with public facilities," said Teguh at the location, Thursday, January 16.
In the area, reforestation is also carried out by planting ornamental plants and cultivating plants. Later, the construction of the park will also be carried out with the arrangement of under rails in this area so that it can support environmental balance.
"It is also used for other public interests, which we hope can provide a sense of security and comfort, as well as add green open space in Jakarta," said Teguh.
According to Teguh, the arrangement of the area was carried out to overcome various social problems that often occurred before the area was organized, such as violence against women and minors, criminal acts of trafficking in persons, and other criminal cases.
"This area used to be full of illegal cafes, there were prostitution locations and in this location it used to be known as a place for the circulation of unlicensed liquor, drugs, and other criminal activities," he said.

This condition, he continued, has caused unrest for the surrounding community. In addition, the ex-Gang Royal area is close to the railroad line which is a sterile area from residential areas.
Therefore, semi-permanent buildings are dangerous for residents because they can increase the risk of accidents and increase the complexity of social problems.
"Hopefully this land can continue to be developed, because the arrangement has not been completed. Hopefully by the middle of this year it can become a safe, comfortable, and can be used as well as possible by the community. That is our commitment," he added.
