Two Fishermen Hit By High Waves In West Waters Of Pangkil Island

JAKARTA - Two fishermen who were victims of the boat capsized due to high waves were rescued by members of the Indonesian Navy KRI Silas Papare (KRI SRE-386) who were operating under the control of the Marine Combat Group Fleet I (Guspurla Koarmada I).

TNI members managed to save the two fishermen from the ferocity of sea waves in the West Waters of Pangkil Island, Riau Strait.

This heroic action stems from an emergency report about two fishermen who fell into the sea due to bad weather.

The commander of KRI SRE-386, Marine Lieutenant Colonel (P) Hermes R. Simanjuntak, immediately dispatched a rescue team to the location as far as 4.7 nautical miles from the anchoring point in North Karas Besar Island.

The first victim, Jamru (39), and the second victim, Muhammad Amin (60) are residents of Mubut Laut Island.

Marine Lieutenant Colonel (P) Hermes R. Simanjuntak said, according to the victim's statement, the boat they were traveling in overturned due to high waves while looking for fish in the West Waters of Pangkil Island.

"Thanks to the alertness of KRI SRE-386 personnel along with other elements, the two fishermen from Mubut Laut Island were rescued," said Hermes R. Simanjuntak in his statement, Tuesday, January 14.

The two victims were then taken to the Tanjung Uban Koarmada I Pier and handed over to related parties for further handling.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Naval Staff (Kasal), Admiral TNI Dr. Muhammad Ali emphasized that all Indonesian Navy units must always be ready to respond to emergency situations to help the community.

Muhammad Ali gave an important message to all Indonesian Navy units, in the emergency conditions needed by the community, the Indonesian Navy must provide benefits to the surrounding environment as a form of its role and service.
