Police Arrest 5 Illegal Gold Miners In Nagan Raya Aceh, Excavator Confiscated

NAGAN RAYA - Nagan Raya Police together with Sub-Directorate IV Tipiter of the Aceh Police Ditreskrimsus arrested five suspected perpetrators of illegal gold mining while conducting a sweep in Blang Masjid and Blang Neuang Villages, Beutong District.

"The five perpetrators were arrested while a joint team was conducting patrols and control at a location suspected of having illegal mining activities," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Nagan Raya Police, Aceh, Iptu Vitra Ramadani to reporters reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 8.

The perpetrators who were detained at the Nagan Raya Police Headquarters with the initials AI (44) as the location supervisor, RT (23) as the operator, IT (40) operator, AD (38) asbuk worker, MA (31) asbuk worker, were each registered as residents of West Aceh Regency and Nagan Raya Regency.

From the location of the arrest, the police also confiscated a number of evidences of 1 unit of Beko excavator, 14 grams of sand equipment, 1 notebook, 2 pieces of gold filtering ambal, 2 indang and 1 gold scale.

Iptu Vitra Ramadani explained that the arrests were made after Nagan Raya Police personnel and a joint team consisted of personal IV Tipiter Ditreskrimsus Polda Aceh, Denpom-2 Meulaboh and TNI from Kodim 0116 Nagan Raya, conducting patrols and sweeping in Blang Mesjid and Blang Neuang Villages, Beutong District, Nagan Raya Regency.

"Arriving at the location, officers saw illegal mining activities, officers also immediately carried out sieges and arrests," he said.

Iptu Vitra Ramadani said the five perpetrators along with a number of pieces of evidence have now been secured at the Nagan Raya Police Headquarters for further investigation.

In addition, in controlling the location, joint officers also installed banners and pamphlets containing calls not to carry out illegal mining activities or bans.

"We have repeatedly reminded residents to stop illegal gold mining, because gold mining can damage the environment, but it has never been heeded," said Iptu Vitra Ramadani.
