Palma De Mallorca, Dream Tourism Destination In Spain Now Becomes The Most Dirty City

JAKARTA - The attractiveness of the sun, sea, and historical sites makes Spain a favorite tourist destination for millions of visitors every year. The natural beauty and wonder made by man in this country continues to captivate tourists.

However, although Britain has dirty public places, more than 8,000 cities in Spain are also facing the problem of dirty roads and alleys filled with garbage.

Reported by VOI from the Express.co.uk page on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, in 2023, the Consumer and User Organization (OCU) conducted a survey of nearly 7,000 residents in 59 cities to find out public perceptions of the cleanliness of cities in Spain. The survey results reveal not only that cities are considered the cleanest, but also the dirtiest.

In the survey, Palma de Mallorca was identified as Spain's dirtiest city, scoring only 35 out of 100. The city received its lowest score in the OCU survey, with complaints of garbage on public roads to the lack of effective maintenance.

Palma, which is a popular holiday destination thanks to its beautiful beaches and history, turns out to have a different image of cleanliness in the eyes of local residents compared to the picture of tourists having.

There are concerns that this hygiene issue not only affects local residents but can also damage the city's reputation in the eyes of tourists.

Palma is at risk of losing competitiveness compared to other destinations in Spain that are more successful in keeping their streets clean.

According to the OCU report, increasing public perceptions about cleanliness does not always depend on economic investment, but on frequency and quality of maintenance. Cities that have more frequent cleaning schedules, such as sweeping and road laundering, tend to get a higher rating than residents.

In the OCU list, Asturias got the highest assessment with a score of 83 out of 100. This city was followed by Bilbao in Basque Country (skor 77) and Vigo in Galicia (scoring 76). Pamplona and Albacete at Castilla-La Mancha got a score of 71. Meanwhile, Getxo in Basque Country recorded a score of 69, and Soria at Castilla y Le total got 68.

Apart from Palma de Mallorca, other cities that are at the lowest rank are Alicante (37), Sevilla (38), and San Sebastirap De los Reyes (39). This survey shows the importance of effective cleaning management in maintaining the image and attraction of a city, both for local residents and tourists.
