Continue Tradition, Acting Governor Of DKI Gives The Name Of The "Rajaka" Giraffe Baby In Ragunan

JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Teguh Setyabudi named the baby giraffe that was born recently at the Ragunan Wildlife Park (TMR). Teguh named it "Rajaka".

"So we name this baby giraffe which was born on December 3, 2024, its name is Rajaka," said Teguh at TMR, Ragunan, South Jakarta, Wednesday, January 8.

This male giraffe is placed in the same cage as several other giraffes. Teguh explained that the meaning of naming Rajaka stands for Ragunan Jakarta.

"Rajaka can also Ragunan Jakarta. It could also be on the other hand 5 centuries in Jakarta. We hope this can be a momentum as a celebration of a new life and a commitment to care for the flora and fauna that we have," said Teguh.

The naming of the newly born animals in Ragunan became a tradition for the Governors of Jakarta. In 2015, a pair of giraffes from Australia came to coincide with August 17. Former Governor of DKI Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) named the two giraffes Dirgah and Ayuri 70, taken from the commemoration of Independence Day, namely the 70th Dirgahayu RI.

After time, the giraffe pair had their first child in April 2020. Anies Baswedan, who at that time served as Governor of DKI, named Julang. The hope is that the giraffe calf will have a height higher than its parents.

Then, former Acting Governor of DKI Heru Budi Hartono also named two animals in Ragunan, namely an elephant named Unggul and a giraffe named Tazoo which was born on September 5, 2022.

In addition to naming the giraffe, Teguh also launched the new logo and mascot of TMR in the form of bondol eagles. The bondol eagle is called a symbol of persistence and speed. This behavior becomes a symbol of the citizens of Jakarta who are dynamic, agile and fast in acting.
