The Minister Of Industry Ensures That The IPhone 16 Has Not Yet Received A Circular Permit Even Though Apple Wants To Build An Airtag Factory

Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita ensured that Apple was not allowed to sell iPhone 16 series products in Indonesia.

This is because until now the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has not provided a Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certificate which is a requirement for the circulation of iPhone 16 products in the country.

"So, until this afternoon the Ministry of Industry has no basis for issuing TKDN certification for Apple products, especially the iPhone 16," Agus said at a press conference at his office, Wednesday, January 8.

"In the Permenperin, it is clear that the calculation of the TKDN value can only be done for components or direct parts of HKT (mobile phones, handheld computers and tablets)," he continued.

Agus then explained in more detail the meaning of the TKDN provisions for HKT.

First, he mentioned the agreement between Apple Inc and the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming / Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani to realize investments in the form of AirTag factories in Batam. He also appreciated the realization of the investment.

"Of course we, who are also part of the government, from the start we always prioritize job creation, we give appreciation to Apple, which, God willing, will build production facilities that will produce AirTag," said Agus.

"AirTag is an accessory. He is not a component, not a part, not part of the HKT, in this case mobile," he continued.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Industry Regulation (Permenperin) Number 29 of 2017 has regulated the minimum limit for all HKT producers to be able to obtain TKDN certificates.

The Permenperin is a derivative of the Minister of Communication and Information Regulation (now the Minister of Communication and Trade) which regulates the minimum HKT limit for TKDN.

"The Permenperin regulates the minimum threshold for all HKT producers so that they can get a TKDN certificate. And in the end (the producer) will get a distribution permit," said Agus.

"And (calculation for TKDN) can only be done on the direct component, direct part or direct part of the HKT. In this case, it is a direct part of the iPhone," he continued.

Furthermore, Agus again emphasized that referring to the TKDN rules, AirTag is not a direct part of the HKT component.

"So, AirTag is not a direct part, not a direct part, not a direct component of HKT. So, if we look at the rules, we can't or can't issue a TKDN certificate in order for Apple to have a distribution permit for its products in Indonesia," he said.

AirTag is a small device that can be embedded in various objects, such as keys, wallets and cellphones.

AirTag functions as a marker and can be tracked if the object is missing. When the object is missing, the user can activate the alarm in the AirTag.

It is known, AirTag can emit signals that can be tracked by the application. If it is out of reach, later the device will detect via Find My network on the nearest Apple device and convey the location of the object to the owner.
