Microsoft Will Invest IDR 48 Trillion To Expand AI And Cloud Capacity In India

JAKARTA Microsoft announced that it will expand the cloud capacity of Azure and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India. This plan was delivered directly by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, on Tuesday, January 7.

Nadella revealed that her company will invest US$3 billion (Rp48 trillion) for two years. This investment is not only focused on developing its technology, but also improves the skills of Indians in the AI sector.

This is the largest investment the Indian people have ever received. This investment is a very big step for technological growth, especially since India is the main market for technology giants from the United States.

Microsoft isn't the only company investing heavily in India. NVIDIA and AMD also have similar plans. In fact, AMD CEO Lisa Su has visited India over the past few months and has promised large investments.

As the main market for technology, Microsoft feels that India has enormous potential and talent. This view arises because of the very high involvement of the Indian people on GitHub Copilot, a generative AI-based tool for developers.

"India is the second largest (developer community at GitHub) after the United States. In fact, India is projected to be the largest in 2028," Nadella said. "We also have a contribution from India's AI project which is in second place after the United States."

Seeing this situation, Microsoft was motivated to train 10 million digital talents in the field of AI in India by 2030. This target may not be difficult to achieve as Microsoft has improved 2.4 million people's skills last year.

This IDR 48 trillion investment is an additional fund that Microsoft has planned recently. That way, this fund is outside Microsoft's plan to invest 80 billion US dollars (IDR 1.2 quadrillion) in a data center that supports AI in the fiscal year 2025.
