Ice Spice Reaps Criticism For Being Late On Stage While Full Of Festivals In Australia
JAKARTA - Rapper from the United States, Ice Spice was the target of criticism for his controversial appearance while filling the Wildlands festival for New Year's Eve in Brisbane, Australia.
Launching the Guardian, Spice is said to be one of three main performers at the festival. However, his appearance became controversial because the rapper was late on stage.
Spice is scheduled to appear for half an hour, starting at 22.30 local time. However, he was 25 minutes late to start his show, and finally only performed two songs before the stage.
Gold Coast-based music and journalist Brenton Larney was among the crowd for Spite's six-minute show that night.
"At 11.01 at night they gave him extra time ... They turned off the microphone and you heard the collective urge from the audience," Larney said. They've been waiting a long time and they get two songs?
"So it was a bit ridiculous and really disrespectful how he left. He laughed, they tried to give him flowers for his birthday and he just ignored it."
Larney said Spice seemed silent and didn't want to be there. It's really disrespectful to see, especially with all the cancellations and things that have happened in the Australian music world.
The Wildlands Festival did not respond to questions from the media crew, but they made comments on social media about the incident.
"We understand that the delay in the arrival of Ice Spice caused some frustration," the festival wrote.
"Managing a festival that is solid means we have to be very firm on the show schedule. We have a tight curfew, which is 00.30, and need to make sure that Chase & Status goes on stage on time so you can all enjoy the NYE Countdown!"
Meanwhile, Billboard reported that Ice Spice had discussed its controversial appearance, while appearing at Perth on Saturday, January 4.
The rapper apologized for his delay and considered it a birthday celebration, meaning it would take longer than expected to get ready.
"Sorry friends, of course all of you can forgive me," he told the audience during the show at Perth. It was my birthday and it took a long time to look like Barbie.
