Dell Accused Of Copying Apple Brands When Launching New Laptops
JAKARTA Dell, a company from the United States, received very strong criticism when launching its newest laptop lineup. The reason is, the company is considered to be imitating Apple's product naming.
Dell laptops are now divided into three levels, namely standard model Dell, Pro Pro, and Dell Pro Max. The name of this PC is familiar because Apple always launches iPhones at these three levels. Therefore, many feel that Dell imitates Apple.
Using these three newest levels, Dell officially left XPS and Inspiron sub-brands. According to Dell Chief Operating Officer Jeff Clarke's confession, this PC-type change was made because consumers prefer easy-to-remember names.
"Residents prefer easy-to-remember and spoken names," Jeff Clarke said, quoted from Bloomberg. According to Dell officials, this new naming makes it easier for users so they no longer need to look for confusing 'nomenclature'.
While re-branding, several media outlets had asked whether Dell was trying to imitate Apple. One of those who asked this question was Engadget. Dell seemed to disagree and defended himself that terms like 'Pro' had existed for a long time in the industry.

Despite the naming that is very similar to the iPhone, the latest laptop lineup from Dell also looks confusing. Each level of Dell laptop will now be accompanied by Base, Plus, and Premium sub-levels.
That way, users will see the Dell Pro Plus and Dell Pro Premium models. If Dell thinks that this naming is simple, the opposite is true. Prospective buyers still have to find out first the difference between the two models.
The same thing happened to Dell Pro Max Plus and Dell Pro Max Premium. Seeing this naming, the 'Pro Max' model should have shown that this device is the best. Additions of Plus and Premium types can confuse potential buyers.
Engadget also reported that Dell employees were not very happy with this change, especially employees who had worked at the company for years. These workers will likely continue to hear complaints about PC levels that look like iPhone brands.
