Apple Medical ID Feature Helps Return Lost IPhone In The Sea To Owner

The disappearance of devices such as iPhones or Apple Watches at sea turns out to be more common than imagined. Usually, owners take advantage of Find My's feature to track their devices. However, this time the story is different. An iPhone that was lost at sea was successfully returned to its owner thanks to the Medical ID feature.

Thiago Itagaki, through an upload on Threads, shared his story while swimming at Maresias Beach, Srypto Paulo, Brazil. He found an iPhone that sank at a depth of about 3 meters and 10 meters from the beach. Thiago had asked people on the beach, but no one claimed to have lost the iPhone.

The cell is completely out of battery. There is a casing with three credit cards in it. I tried to find the owner by name, but couldn't find anyone I'm sure is right," said Thiago.

After making sure the iPhone is completely dry, he tries to charge. Luckily, the device is still functioning properly. That's where Thiago decided to use the Medical ID feature to find the owner.

The Medical ID feature on the iPhone allows others to see important information about you without the need for passwords, such as allergies, blood type, and emergency contacts. This feature is usually used in a state of emergency, but this time it is key to returning the lost iPhone.

Thiago contacted an emergency contact called Love and managed to talk to the owner of the iPhone. The couple turned out to be from Srypto Paulo and had left Maresias Beach. They lost their iPhone on New Year's Eve, and the device had been underwater for four days.

"The owner is very grateful. They didn't expect this story to get so much attention," said Thiago. This story has gained thousands of likes in Threads.

Although the iPhone has had a waterproof certification since the iPhone 7, water resistance has only been guaranteed at a certain depth and in a limited time. However, this story shows that regulating Medical ID with complete emergency information can be an important step.

To access or update Medical ID, open the Health app, then tap on your profile photo at the top of the screen. Who knows, this feature one day can help you, even in unexpected situations.
