Trump Offers Canada To Become The 51st US State After Justin Trudeau Resigns

JAKARTA - President-elect of the United States (US) Donald Trump renewed his offer to make Canada the 51st US state.

Trump made the offer hours after Justin Trudeau stepped down as leader of the Liberal Party as well as Canadian Prime Minister on Monday, January 6 local time.

"Many people in Canada are happy to be the 51st State. The United States can no longer bear the massive trade and subsidy deficit that Canada needs to survive. Justin Trudeau knows this, and resigns," Trump wrote on Truth Social social media.

If Canada joins the US, there will be no tariffs, taxes will drop drastically, and they will be truly safe from the threat of Russian and Chinese ships that continue to surround them. Together, how great is this country!!!" continued Trump.

Trudeau resigned after his declining popularity and pressure from the Liberal Party on Monday, January 6.

Despite the resignation, Trudeau said he would still lead the Liberal Party until the leadership seats were filled.

Trump and Trudeau are known to have no good relations. Even during Trump's first tenure as US 45th President for the 2017-2021 period. At that time, Trump had proposed Canada to become the 51st US state.
