JAKARTA - The incumbent of the Vice President of the United States and Senate Chair Kamala Harris said a peaceful transfer of power was one of the pillars of the country's democracy.

He expressed this after leading the certification of Donald Trump's victory in the 5 November election. The approval was made on Capitol Hill, Washington DC

Trump, a Republican candidate paired with JD Vance, is competing with Harris who is paired with the Democratic Party's Walz Team.

"Today is clearly a very important day, and it's about what should be the norm and what the American people should just accept, namely that one of the most important pillars of our democracy is the peaceful transfer of power," Harris told reporters at the Capitol. January 7th.

"I firmly believe that American democracy is only as strong as our will to fight for it," he added.

Harris oversaw the state's voting role in the ceremonial role of vice president as president of the Senate. Known for his big smile and cheerful attitude when appearing in public, he stood tall with his hands cupped on the podium while handing over an electoral vote certificate for each state for Trump and himself.

The final approval determined that Trump won 312 Electoral College votes compared to 226 Harris votes.

Senator JD Vance, whose victory as vice president was also approved by Harris, sat in the House of Representatives room. Vance stood up and waved to members in the House of Representatives room when his total electoral vote was announced.

"We have to renew our commitment to safeguard America's democracy," Democratic House of Representatives member Total Clark said in a statement earlier that day.

"As elected leaders, our loyalty must be to the Constitution, first and forever. We are here to respect the wishes of the people and the rule of law," he added.

This certification paved the way for Trump's inauguration in two weeks, running smoothly. In stark contrast to four years ago when a group of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in a failed attempt to deter President Trump's 2020 defeat to Democrat President Joe Biden.

Four years ago, Vice President Mike Pence led Biden's victory. In 2001, Vice President Al Gore had the same honor after a fierce battle between himself and George W. Bush.
