PSSI officially ended Shin Tae-yong's collaboration with the Indonesian national team on Monday, January 6, 2025. At the same time, the General Chairperson (PSSI), Erick Thohir, said that the replacement coach had been prepared and would be announced in the near future.
"The new coach on 11 (January 2025) will come later on 12 (January 2025 we will hold a press conference with the media. So, later it will be open to questions," said Erick Thohir in an official statement in Central Jakarta on Monday, January 6, 2025.
Although Erick Thohir did not clearly explain who the new coach who had been chosen was, many said that this new coach was brought in from the Netherlands.
This emerged because many diaspora players in the Indonesian national team came from the Windmill Country. It felt that it would be right for the team.
Apart from the figure of the new coach who is still being held, Erick Thohir has compiled an agenda for the presence of the coach.
He will even take the coach to see the facilities used by the Indonesian national team until he meets the President.
"Of course later we will take him on tour to see what facilities are usually used and meet the Menpora at 14.00 WIB. We will see if the President (Prabowo Subianto) is also pleased to meet," he said.
On the same occasion, Erick Thohir also said that PSSI's decision to end the collaboration with Shin Tae-yong was part of the federation's evaluation.
"We see the need for leaders to be able to implement strategies that are certainly agreed upon by the players, better communication, and better program implementation for the Indonesian national team," said Erick Thohir.
Shin Tae-yong was fired after leading the Indonesian national team in the 2024 AFF Cup. The South Korean tactician failed to bring the Garuda Squad, which consisted of many young players, to the semifinals.
The match between the Indonesian national team vs the Philippines in the final matchday of the group phase of the AFF Cup is Shin Tae-yong's last match. At that time, Asnawi Mangkualam and colleagues lost 0-1 at the Manahan Stadium, Solo.
