Sayonara, Shin Tae-yong No Longer Handling The Indonesian National Team
JAKARTA - Shin Tae-yong's continuation of his career as coach of the Indonesian national team finally found a bright spot. The man from South Korea was officially dismissed by PSSI.
Information about Shin Tae-yong's career which was completed with the Garuda Squad was reported by PSSI on Monday, January 6, 2025. It was stated that this decision was part of the evaluation of PSSI.
"We see the need for leaders to be able to implement strategies that are certainly agreed upon by the players, better communication, and better program implementation for the Indonesian national team," said PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir, in his official statement.
"Pak Sumardji (Indonesian National Team Manager) met coach Shin Tae-yong this morning. Coach Shin has received his letters. Later there will be a next process regarding our relationship that has ended," he said again.
The decision to end the collaboration between Shin Tae-yong and the Indonesian national team marked the end of togetherness for four years. This 54-year tactician first handled the Garuda Squad in 2020 and managed to boost the FIFA ranking from 174 to 127 in the world.
Shin Tae-yong's contract is actually still running until 2027 after he extended his contract in June 2024. During his term of office, the South Korean coach has met two targets given by PSSI to qualify for the 2023 Asian Cup and bring the U-23 Indonesian national team to the quarter-finals of the U-23 Asian Cup.
