WHO Asked China To Share Data On The Origin Of COVID-19 Causes Of The Pandemic

JAKARTA - China has granted the request of the world health organization or WHO regarding data and access to the origin of COVID-19, which started with Wuhan, triggering a pandemic.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said on Tuesday December 31 that China is the only country that organizes experts to share advances in science with WHO.

Ning conveyed this after the day before, WHO asked China to share data and access to help understand the origins of COVID-19, whose first case was detected in central China five years ago.

Traces Of COVID-19 In Wuhan

Citing Reuters, WHO recorded more than 760 million cases of COVID-19 occurring worldwide with a death toll of 6.9 million cases.

In mid-2023, China declared the end of COVID-19 a state of public health emergency.

At the same time, China lifted all COVID-19 restrictions and reopened its borders to the rest of the world.

China emphasizes that COVID-19 should serve as a permanent reminder of the potential emergence of new viruses with serious consequences.

Chinese scientists in the same year then uploaded data from the early days of the pandemic to the international database.

The data shows that the DNA of several animal species including fire dogs is found in environmental samples that have tested positive for Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID.

In 2021, a WHO-led team spent weeks in and around Wuhan a city in China where the first cases of COVID-19 were detected.

The WHO then said the virus may have been transmitted from bats to humans through other animals but further research was needed.

After the WHO observation, China later said there was no need for another visit to Wuhan. China is pushing for an initial search of COVID-19 cases in other countries.

"Regarding the COVID-19 tracing problem, China has shared the most data and research results and made the largest contribution to global tracing research," he said.

"The WHO international experts have repeatedly said that, during their visit to China, they went to all the places they wanted to visit, and met everyone they wanted to meet," Mao continued.
