PLN Potentially Loses IDR 10 Trillion Due To 50 Percent Electricity Tariff Discount

PT PLN (Persero) has the potential to lose IDR 10 trillion due to the 50 percent discount on electricity rates in January and February 2025. This discount is given in line with the implementation of an increase in value added tax rates (VAT) by 12 percent in 2025.

PLN's Finance Director, Sinthya Roesli, emphasized that his party is ready to run the program and ensures that the company's finances are maintained even though the revenue is eroded by IDR 10 trillion.

"In 2025 there will be a tariff discount for customers below 2,200 in January and February. We are responding to this because there is a decrease in customer revenue of IDR 5 trillion per month in January and February," he said, quoted on Saturday, December 28.

Sinthya emphasized that his party continues to anticipate and coordinate with the government, including the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) to respond to this policy.

"Of course we have to anticipate the direction of the Deputy Minister (Deputy Minister of BUMN Kartiko Wirjoatmodjo) how the finance aspect of PLN continues to be maintained," said Sinthya.

He expressed his support for the Government's move in distributing economic stimulus packages in the form of a 50 percent discount on electricity rates for household customers with a power of 2,200 VA and below.

PLN's Executive Vice President of Corporate & TJSL Communications Gregorius Adi Trianto said a 50 percent discount for postpaid customers would be enjoyed automatically when customers paid electricity bills for the period January and February 2025.

"Meanwhile, prepaid customers only need to buy half (50 percent) from usual to get the same energy (kWh) anywhere, either at PLN Mobile, at retailers, or at agents," he told VOI, Tuesday, December 24.

Greg added, for the purchase of electricity tokens on prepaid customers and postpaid customer bill discounts, provisions are applied according to the maximum hours of running and customer installed power.

Based on customer power, here are the limits imposed by PLN:

Power 450 VA with a maximum purchase of tokens equivalent to 324 kWh or equivalent to 720 hours on per month.

900 VA power with a maximum purchase of tokens equivalent to 648 kWh or equivalent to 720 hours on per month.

Power of 1300 VA with a maximum purchase of tokens equivalent to 936 kWh or equivalent to 720 hours on per month.

Power 2200 VA with a maximum purchase of tokens equivalent to 1,584 kWh or equivalent to 720 hours on per month.
