PLN SPKLU Transactions Increase By More Than 400 Percent During Christmas Holidays

PT PLN (Persero) recorded an increase in electric vehicle charging transactions (EV) by more than 400 percent on the 7th day of Christmas 2024 and New Year's 2025 alerts compared to the same period last year.

In a series of reviews of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) starting from Tangerang, Bandung, Batang, and Sragen, PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo emphasized that this increase in transactions reflects the high public interest in EVs and the development of SPKLU infrastructure.

"During the Nataru period this time, we recorded 16,549 transactions at the SPKLU, an increase of 4.2 times compared to the Nataru period last year of 3,966 transactions. This extraordinary increase shows that more and more people are turning to electric vehicles for homecoming trips," said Darmawan, quoted on Saturday, December 28.

Not only the number of transactions, PLN also recorded an increase in energy consumption for EV charging. In Nataru last year, the total energy was recorded at 81,102 kWh, while this year it reached 400,783 kWh, an increase of almost 500 percent.

The increase in the number of transactions and energy consumption shows that people's confidence in electric vehicles is getting higher. PLN is very happy to be able to support EV travelers' journey by providing SPKLU infrastructure that can meet charging needs during travel," Darmawan continued.

Darmawan emphasized that PLN continues to be committed to supporting the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia by providing reliable, environmentally friendly, and easily accessible infrastructure.

"We directly ensure that all SPKLUs, especially in main homecoming routes such as Trans Java, can function optimally and are ready to serve the needs of electric vehicle users during Nataru," said Darmawan.

To support the surge in EV users, PLN has prepared 3,069 SPKLU units spread across 2,906 strategic locations throughout Indonesia. Specifically on the main Trans Java-Sumatra route, 500 SPKLU units are available in 297 locations. Meanwhile, in Central Java and Yogyakarta, PLN has provided 222 SPKLU units at 141 location points, including 53 units in 22 rest areas along the Central Java toll road.

"In the KM 519A Rest Area, we provide 4 SPKLU units with various charging types, ranging from ultra fast charging to standard charging to ensure that the needs of electric vehicle users can be met properly," added Darmawan.

This surge in transactions is also supported by easy access through the PLN Mobile application. This application allows electric vehicle users to monitor the availability of SPKLU in real time and select the nearest charging location. In addition, PLN has alerted more than 6,000 personnel who are ready to serve EV users for 24 hours.

"We want to ensure that the travel of electric vehicle users during Nataru runs smoothly and comfortably. Starting from Tangerang to Sragen, we have monitored all SPKLUs and so far queues are well controlled. If you need information or assistance, the public can access PLN Mobile and Whatsapp hotlines at 0877-11-123 which are on standby 24 hours," concluded Darmawan.
