Rupiah continues to plummet to IDR16,312 per US Dollar, Airlangga: We Monitor
JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate is increasingly powerless against the United States (US) dollar. Quoting Bloomberg, on Thursday, December 19, 2024, the rupiah spot exchange rate was closed lower by 1.34 percent to the level of Rp. 16,312 per US dollar.
Meanwhile, the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (Jisdor) exchange rate of Bank Indonesia (BI) closed down 1.09 percent to a price level of Rp. 16,277 per US dollar.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that currently he is still paying attention to the movement of the rupiah exchange rate in the future.
"We monitor the rupiah, right at the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN), we just monitor it," Airlangga told the media crew at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Office, Jakarta, Thursday, December 19.
To note, in the initial assumption of the 2024 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN), the rupiah exchange rate was assumed to be IDR 15,000 per US dollar. Then the government revised it in the middle of the year regarding the assumption that the rupiah exchange rate was at the level of Rp. 15,900 to Rp. 16,100 per US dollar.
Airlangga said that the movement of the rupiah is very natural if there is fluctuation or ups and downs of the exchange rate because the current condition of the US dollar is experiencing a strengthening.
"Just a few days ago, right, the name is the exchange rate going up and down, America is all getting stronger," he said.
