Apart From 17 Indictments Including Money And Tax Laundering Cases, Ex-Prime Malaysia's Wife Is Free

JAKARTA - The Malaysian court canceled 17 charges, including money laundering and tax evasion cases that dragged the name of the wife of the former Malaysian Prime Minister (PM), Najib Razak.

Najib's wife, Rosmah Mansor, 73, who was sentenced to prison was declared to be breathing free air.

Previously, Rosmah faced 12 money laundering charges involving 7.1 million ringgit or 1.6 million US dollars. Including five allegations of not reporting his income between December 4, 2013 and June 8, 2017.

Citing AFP, High Court Judge K. Muniandy who read out the verdict for the cancellation of 17 charges against Rosmah said the allegations had no "honesty, propriety, and legality".

The judge also ordered the release of Rosmah who had been detained

Regarding this decision, the Malaysian Attorney General's Office will file an appeal.

Rosmah is known to have been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a corruption case in a verdict hearing in September 2022. However, he appealed the decision.

In this case, during her husband's tenure as Malaysian PM, Rosmah was charged with seeking and accepting bribes to help one of the companies secure solar power projects for rural schools in Malaysia on the island of Kalimantan.
