The Ministry Of Industry Regarding The IPhone 16 Release This Month: Still Communicating With Apple

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has opened its voice regarding the issue of Apple's latest smartphone, the iPhone 16, which will launch in Indonesia on December 20.

Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry Eko SA Cahyanto admitted that he had not heard the news. He also confirmed that discussions with Apple regarding the requirements to sell his newest product had not been completed and were currently ongoing.

"We will try to wait until the 20th. We are still communicating with Apple," said Eko when met after the event "Industrial Kaleidoscope Wrapped 2024 & Branding Jakarta Digital Industrial Parkway at Cibis Park, Simatupang, South Jakarta, Wednesday, December 18.

Regarding whether Apple has submitted the latest proposal after the initial proposal was rejected, Eko is still reluctant to give a leak. According to him, if there are results, they will be submitted immediately.

"I convey that we are still communicating with Apple," he said.

Previously, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry Febri Hendri Antoni Arif confirmed that the iPhone 16 still cannot be sold in Indonesia even though the giant company has submitted a new investment of 100 million US dollars to the Government of the Republic of Indonesia.

Febri said Apple Inc still has not complied with regulations in Indonesia. This is because the obligation to invest in IDR 271 billion to comply with the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) has not yet been carried out.

In fact, the TKDN requirements are regulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Industry (Permenperin) Number 29 of 2017 concerning Provisions and Procedures for Calculating Domestic Component Values for Cellular Phone Products, Handheld Computers and Tablet Computers.

In Permenperin 29/2017, it is stated that the TKDN calculation can be carried out using three schemes, namely making domestic products or building factories, making domestic applications and/or developing innovations in the country.

"(During this process, it means that the iPhone 16 cannot enter yet?) Not yet," Febri said at a press conference at his office, Thursday, November 21.
