Boyolali student burned after being accused of stealing friend's cellphone

BOYOLALI - A student at the Darusy Syahadah Islamic Boarding School in Simo District, Boyolali Regency, with the initials SS (15) was burned for allegedly stealing a friend's cellphone.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Boyolali Police, Iptu Joko Purwadi, said that the students who were victims of the persecution were still 15 years old.

The incident occurred Monday (16/12) at 23.00 WIB in one of the guest rooms at the Darusy Syahadah Islamic Boarding School, the son of Kedunglengkong, Simo, Boyolali.

"The victim's residence is in West Sumbawa, NTB. He has studied at the boarding school since July 2024," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 17.

He said the suspect named Muhammad Galang Setiadarma (21) has now been secured and is in the process of being investigated. This perpetrator has his address at Kaliwungu District, Kendal Regency.

The chronology began with the younger brother of the suspect who was also a boarding school student complaining to his brother that his cellphone was removed or allegedly taken by the victim.

"So that his brother or suspect came to the hut at around 21.00 WIB, who then asked his sister to present the victim, and one of the caregivers was present," he said.

At that time the suspect interrogated the victim.

"And there the suspect locked his room. So this suspect came to the Islamic boarding school with gasoline in the form of gasoline that was put into a mineral water bottle, the aim was to scare the victim," he said.

However, in that situation the fuel was poured into the victim's body.

"Then he was scared by turning on the lighter and then caught fire. As a result of the incident the victim suffered burns 38 percent, on the face, neck, and two legs," he said.

He said the victim was currently undergoing treatment at Simo Hospital.

"The victim's condition this afternoon received treatment and surgery was carried out to clean the burns. Under the supervision of the doctor and his condition was stable," he said.

Meanwhile, from the report, his party has checked and processed the crime scene.

"We managed to collect evidence in the form of burnt carpets, matches, victim's clothes, and residual fuels that were put in used bottles," he said.
