President Assad Reportedly Leaves Damascus As Syrian Rebels Break In

JAKARTA - Syrian President Bashar Assad left the capital Damascus by plane today, Sunday, December 8.

Assad's flight when the Syrian government had pushed into Damascus, which was tantamount to the military deployment.

This was said by two senior military officers to Reuters.

Another witness said thousands of people both on foot and in the car gathered in the main square of Damascus waving and shouting "freedom".

"We celebrate with the Syrian people news about the release of our prisoners and the release of their chains and announce the end of the era of injustice in the Sednaya prison," the rebels said.

Sednaya is known to be a large military prison on the outskirts of Damascus, where the Syrian government detained thousands of people.

Hours earlier, Syrian rebels announced they had fully controlled the main city of Homs after one day of fighting.

The control of Homs City put Assad's 24-year power on the brink.
