South Korea's Powered Party Will Boycott President Yoon's Impeachment Voting

JAKARTA - MPs from the ruling party appear ready to boycott the vote on impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk Yeol.

During the parliamentary plenary session, members of the People's Power Party (PPP) left the courtroom after voting for a bill calling for an investigation by a special prosecutor regarding allegations of corruption against first lady Kim Keon Hee.

The impeachment motion against Yoon is scheduled to be submitted in a plenary session afterward, and the boycott by PPP lawmakers will make the proposal unlikely to be achieved.

Reported by ANTARA from Yonhap-OANA, Saturday, December 7, hours before the vote on impeachment was held by parliament, Yoon apologized for causing public concern due to a military emergency statement broadcast on television.

Yoon also promised not to repeat the action, and denied rumors that martial law would be imposed again.

Yoon's appearance was the first in public since he declared martial law on Tuesday (3/12) night. Yoon revoked the status six hours later after the National Assembly opposed his decision.

Yoon said he imposed martial law because he was desperate but acknowledged the sudden decision caused concern and inconvenience to the public.
