Police Raid Houses In Babelan Bekasi Places For Reconditioning Expired Products Sold Cheaply Online

The Bekasi Metro Police uncovered a case of the practice of selling outdated products that are not suitable for distribution by changing the expiration date of a residence in Kavling Mandiri Number 52C, Bahagia Village, Babelan District, Bekasi Regency.

"The three perpetrators we arrested had the initials RH, MJ, and AS. The modus operandi of the perpetrators was to sell expired products by first falsifying the date," said Bekasi Metro Police Chief Commissioner Pol. Twedi Aditya Bennyahdi in Cikarang, Friday, December 6, confiscated by Antara.

Twedi said that the disclosure of this case began with public reports related to the existence of a number of products that were sold at low prices through online stores. The Bekasi Metro Police then conducted a search of this information.

"Until finally we managed to find the location of a house that was used as a storage area and the sale of the expired product. We raided and secured the three perpetrators along with evidence," he said.

The arrests coincided when the perpetrators were packing goods to be sent to consumers using expedition transportation facilities.

Twedi also explained that the location is also a place for the reconditioning of expired products. The perpetrator changed the date as if it were a decent item and was still far from expiration.

The perpetrators used a number of special tools to eliminate expiration dates while at the same time listing a new date on product packaging that they would market.

Based on the results of the examination, the perpetrators had been operating for 1 year and 6 months with a total profit of approximately Rp. 626,650,000.00.

"Regarding where these perpetrators got the product, we are still exploring it through the development of this case," he said.

The police confiscated evidence of approximately 7,500 units of products from various trademarks. The confiscated products include items such as baby equipment, medicines, cosmetics, cleaning tools, and contraceptives.

The three suspects were charged with multiple articles, namely Article 435 in conjunction with Article 138 paragraphs (2) and (3) of Law Number 7 of 2023 concerning Health with a threat of up to 12 years in prison.

They were also charged with Article 8 paragraph (2) and Article 9 paragraph (1) of Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection, as well as Article 62 paragraph (1) of the same law with a maximum prison sentence of 5 years or a fine of up to IDR 2 billion.

To the public, his party appealed to be more thorough in buying products because the perpetrator changed the expiration date.

"You have to be suspicious when you get information on sales at a low price," said Twedi.
