The Ministry Of Public Works Prepares IDR 12 Trillion For Food Self-Sufficiency Support Infrastructure

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) will allocate a budget of around Rp. 12 trillion for food self-sufficiency supporting infrastructure.

PU Minister Dody Hanggodo said he received directions from President Prabowo Subianto to focus on food security and pursue food self-sufficiency targets as soon as possible. By 2025 alone, infrastructure will support the development of 2.3 million hectares of agricultural land.

"From us (the budget allocation) is around Rp. 12 trillion, that's it. We focus on irrigation (networks) and complete the remaining dams," said Dody when met at the PU Ministry office, Jakarta, Friday, December 6.

For the Ministry of Public Works itself, Dody said, his party is focused on supporting water resources (SDA). This starts from the construction and optimization of existing irrigation networks to dams.

"Yes, we focus on the same irrigation (network) to complete the remaining dams for 2025 and 2026," he said.

In line with the support for the achievement of self-sufficiency, the Ministry of Public Works has held several coordination meetings with the Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman and other stakeholders. This is done for the sake of more integrated agricultural infrastructure.

It is known, the Ministry of Public Works continues to finalize a joint work program with the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) to accelerate the achievement of food self-sufficiency through the support of water resource infrastructure.

The coordination meeting was held between PU Minister Dody Hanggodo and Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran and Army Chief of Staff (Kasad) General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak at the Ministry of Agriculture Office, Jakarta, Thursday, December 5.

Dody said, in principle, the Ministry of Public Works is ready to support President Prabowo Subianto's food security program.

"From the beginning, we conveyed that the Ministry of Public Works is a handyman, we are preparing irrigation water, the Ministry of Agriculture is preparing production facilities," said Dody as quoted from his written statement, Friday, December 6.
