President Invites Japanese Entrepreneurs To Get Involved In Building Giant Sea Wall

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto invited Japanese companies to participate and be involved in the construction of the giant sea wall which stretches across the north coast of Jakarta.

President Prabowo conveyed this when receiving Japanese businessmen from the Japan Indonesia Association (Japinda) delegation at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Thursday, December 5.

"The president invited the Japanese companies to participate with the 'Great giant sea wall' which is 40 kilometers above Jakarta and up to 600 kilometers," said Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BPKM) Rosan Perkasa Roeslani after accompanying the President, at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA.

Rosan said that during the meeting, talks between the President and Japanese businessmen from Jabinda were very productive and produced several inputs.

The President will also invite other Japanese businessmen from the Japan Jakarta Club delegation to discuss in more detail the involvement of Japanese companies in the construction of giant sea embankments.

The cooperation scheme for the construction of this giant sea embankment, said Rosan, is also still open, both between companies (B2B) and between governments (G2G), as well as cooperation between governments and business entities (KPBU).

"We are still open, yes, but hopefully, these large Japanese companies will participate in the construction, the engineering and of course from the funding," said Rosan.

As for further discussions regarding funding, as well as cooperation in other forms, President Prabowo and Japanese companies will discuss again on Friday (6/12).

Previously in the 2024 Kadin National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas), the Coordinating Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) said the budget for the construction of a giant sea embankment on the north coast of Jakarta from the Banten to Bekasi areas is estimated at IDR 123 trillion for the next eight years.

AHY said that the budget would also be used, including for sanitation improvements including river normalization, so he emphasized that this amount of cost could not only depend on the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN).
