Rizki Juniansyah Lost His Companion

JAKARTA Indonesia's flagship lifter Rizki Juniansyah lost the companion figure in his father when he competed for the 2024 IWF World Championship.

Rizki is currently undergoing intensive training to face the championship which is scheduled to take place in Manama, Bahrain, on December 6-15, 2024.

This is the first time the 73 kg weightlifting gold medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics has competed in an international event after being left behind by his father who died.

"I fell mentally because usually every exercise is always there who accompanies, there are always video calls when competing abroad."

"Anyway, I lost my father figure who had always accompanied me from scratch," he said in an official statement.

Rizki has undergone a two-month training holiday after his appearance at the Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (2024) in September 2024 and followed by the death of his father.

The athlete who was born in Serang, Banten, 22 years old, lost her father, Muhammad Yasin, on October 18, 2024 after a motorcycle accident.

"I returned to training for about three weeks before going to Bahrain," said the figure who made history as Indonesia's first lifter to win the Olympic gold medal.

In Bahrain later, Rizki Juniansyah will play in his 73 kg main class. He joined Group B with lifters from South Korea, North Korea, China, Colombia, and Europe.

Rizki said that he still set a high target and maximized the best possible opportunity in this event.

"I will try my best to steal gold. God willing, I will take the opportunity to win a medal," he said.

In the men's sector, Rizki appeared with Eko Yuli Irawan (67 kg), Muhammad Yasin (67 kg), Ricko Saputra (61 kg), and Rahmat Erwin Abdullah (81 kg).

The Indonesian contingent women will be represented by Juliana Klarisa (55 kg), Natasya Beteyob (59 kg), Tsabitha Alfiah Ramadani (64 kg), and Nurul Akmal (+87 kg).
