Minister Of Home Affairs: Villages And Regions Must Have Rules To Protect Migrant Workers

JAKARTA - The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian instructed all villages and regions, especially those that become pockets of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) to have regulations that protect them.

"The most important thing is to make specific village and regional head regulations regarding the placement of protection and governance of PMI," said Minister Tito in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, December 3.

This was said by Tito during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, the Ministry of Villages, and the Ministry of Manpower regarding the protection of migrant workers.

He said that this memorandum of understanding between ministries is not just ceremonial but must really be applied by leaders in the regions and villages, especially those in PMI pockets.

According to him, the Ministry of Home Affairs will continue to follow up by monitoring whether the MoU signed is running or not.

"All circulars and memorandums of understanding of the MOU which when signed must be followed up by making regional head regulations. We will continue to monitor them," he said.

Tito also emphasized the areas that are pockets of migrant workers such as NTT, NTB, Central Java, East Java, West Java, and Banten to provide one-stop services to PMI.

Not only that, but the village head continued, Tito must know who will go abroad by making village regulations so that problems can be known.

"For villages, it must be programmed through the APBDes, specifically regarding the protection of Indonesian migrant workers," said Tito.
