North Sumatra Police: Medan-Karo Traffic Completely Paralyzed Due To Landslides

The Directorate of Traffic of the North Sumatra Regional Police (Polda) said the traffic flow from Medan City to Berastagi City, Karo Regency or vice versa was completely paralyzed due to landslides.

"As a result of the landslide that occurred, the traffic flow of Medan-Berastagi, precisely in the Tirtanadi PDAM area, was completely paralyzed," said North Sumatra Police Traffic Director Kombes Muji Ediyanto in Medan, Antara, Wednesday, November 27.

Muji said the landslide was due to heavy rains that had occurred since, Tuesday, in the early hours of the morning, which caused Sibolangit District. As a result, the traffic flow of Medan-Berastagi has become completely paralyzed, or vice versa.

"From the impact of the landslide, three people were identified as dead due to landslides and have been taken to Bhayangkara Hospital Medan. Currently, data collection is still being carried out on the victim," said Muji.

He said the Traffic Directorate of the North Sumatra Police and his staff are currently evacuating to clean up landslide materials using heavy equipment so that the traffic flow of Medan-Berastagi can be passed again.

"We urge people to temporarily postpone their trip from Medan to Berastagi or vice versa. Or look for alternative routes if they want to go to Karo Regency," he said.

Previously, there was also a flash flood that occurred in Martelu Village, Sibolangit District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra on Saturday (23/11) night, resulting in four deaths and two others missing.
