The panel of judges at the Padangsidimpuan District Court, North Sumatra, sentenced Prosecutor Jovi Andrea Bachtiar to a one-year trial for being found guilty of defamation through his social media account.
"Sentenced the defendant to six months in prison," said Chief Judge Irpan Hasan Lubis, at the Padangsidimpuan District Court, North Sumatra, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, November 26.
The judge emphasized that the prison sentence does not need to be served, unless at a later date there is an order from the judge because the defendant is proven guilty.
"The defendant was found guilty of committing another crime before the end of one year's probation," said Judge Irpan.
The panel of judges stated that the defendant Prosecutor Jovi was proven to have committed a criminal act by deliberately attacking other people's honors or good names.
This is done by accusing a thing so that it is generally known in the form of electronic technology information.
"The defendant was proven to have violated Article 45 paragraph (4) of Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions," he said.
