Elected Chair, Setyo Budiyanto Is Said To Have A Heavy Task To Improve KPK's Image For The Next 5 Years

JAKARTA - Former investigator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Yudi Purnomo said the tough task was waiting for Setyo Budiyanto who was elected as Chairman of the KPK for the period 2024-2029. He was required to restore his declining public trust.

"It is a tough task to wait for his leadership in the future. The tough task is to restore public trust in the KPK which is decreasing due to the controversy that has occurred within the KPK compared to work performances," Yudi told reporters in a written statement, Friday, November 22.

Even though it was difficult, Yudi was sure that Setyo was able to complete the task. Because, he has a track record as Director of KPK Investigations.

In addition, Setyo also did not have a bad track record while working. "In fact, many big cases were handled by Setyo as a director," he said.

"In addition, his current experience as Inspector General at the Ministry of Agriculture is also useful in the field of preventing corruption, especially improving systems and digitizing," continued Yudi.

Furthermore, Yudi believes that the internal anti-corruption commission will also not reject it. So, now it's just the DPR RI that carries out the supervision.

"The DPR has chosen now is the time to supervise their performance and provide opportunities to work with the hope that the new leadership can excel, not even add problems at the KPK," he said.

As previously reported, Commission III of the DPR RI has appointed five KPK leaders for the 2024-2029 period in a plenary meeting on Thursday, November 21.

Those elected were Setyo Budianto with 46 votes, Johanis Tanak 48 votes, Fitroh Rohcahyanto with 48 votes, Agus Joko Pramono 39 votes, and Ibnu Basuki Widodo 33 votes.

Setyo was then elected as Chairman of the KPK for the period 2024-2029. He got 45 votes.
