I Wayan Sudiana And Kasimyn Win At FFI 2024 In The Best Music Arranger Category

JAKARTA - I Wayan Sudiana and Kasimyn (Gabber Operandi Mode) admit that they did not imagine that they could win in the Best Music Arranger category at the 2024 Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) which was announced Wednesday, November 20 evening.

The two musicians of different genres based in Bali are the Music Arrangers for a film called Samsara directed by Garin Nugroho.

Kasimyn, who is active in the world of electronic music, even admitted that she did not know if her name was included in the nomination. At first she worked on Samsara in a cine-concert format, but the film format was made and registered with FFI.

"We don't know if we are nominated. If we imagine winning, we don't know that at all," Kasimyn said when met in Bintaro, South Tangerang, Thursday, November 21.

In addition, Kasimyn admitted that he was busy preparing for the 'Samsara' cinema performance which will be held in Yogyakarta, Jakarta, even abroad.

"This work is quite intense. Meanwhile, for us, previous experiences, if we write films, it's finished, it's over, it's over, a film that has been shown, already. But this time it's not like that," he said.

Meanwhile, Sudirana, known as a composer and tweeter, said victory at FFI was a luck for him. He admitted that he had to focus on other things to prepare for the upcoming show.

"If you're going to anticipate getting a trophy or winning or not, just be lucky," said Sudirana.

"We are more focused on the creative process first. So, the challenges are very new to me, because the music is live, you guys definitely know that gamelan players play using taste, without scoring, even though in the group we have started playing with the score," he continued.

Meanwhile, the concept of cine-concert is an effort to return to its (root) origin, to provide a different experience for the audience.

"Initially it was a film like that. If you remember the film CharlieCLin, it was indeed a film we watched a silent film, without dialogue, but accompanied by live music," said Gita Fara as the producer.

"So we want to bring experience to watch cinema, but collaborate with Bali gamelan and also electronic music," he continued.

In this case, music is not just a patch, but a unit that affects the meaning displayed on the screen.

"Why do we make mention of his namecy-concert? Yes, because it's actually like watching a movie and watching a concert like that," said Gita.

"So, in those concerts apart from playing live games, the vocals will also sing live," he added.

With this concept, every 'Samsara' cinema-concert show will be displayed differently from one another.

For information, the 'Samsara' crime-concert has been displayed in Singapore and the Indonesia Bertatur Program in Bali.

Furthermore, it will also be displayed at the Innovation and Creativity Center, Yogyakarta on December 5, and Graha Bhakti Budaya, Taman Ismail Marzuki, Central Jakarta on December 13-15.

The plan, 'Samsara' clinical-concert will also be taken to several places abroad.
