The Government Has No Plan To Revoke The Regional Expansion Moratorium, The Deputy Minister Of Home Affairs Calls It Needs Major Funding
JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) Bima Arya Sugiarto said the government does not yet have a plan to revoke the regional expansion moratorium or the formation of a new autonomous region (DOB).
"Not yet. Not yet in that direction," said the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs after attending the National Population and Civil Registration Coordination Meeting with the Central Institution, in the Kemayoran area, Jakarta, Thursday, November 21, was confiscated by Antara.
The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs explained that the government needed to calculate the revocation of the moratorium. According to him, the revocation of the moratorium will require large funding.
"Everything must be calculated, and coordinated with the Ministry of Finance," he explained.
Previously, Deputy Chairman of the Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR RI Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung voiced the need to revoke the regional expansion moratorium.
Doli explained, since the moratorium was implemented in 2014, there have been 329 DOB candidates registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri).
"We consider, especially, to think that Indonesia, if it wants to be developed quickly, it can no longer be hampered, " said Doli at the plenary meeting of the Indonesian House of Representatives Baleg at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, October 28.

On that occasion, he gave an example of the obstacles made by the people of Bogor Regency as a result of the moratorium not having been lifted, namely residents who live near the border of other regencies/cities must travel very far to go to the central regional government in Cibinong.
"I think all factions should encourage the government to open a moratorium. This period must have a expansion because there is no such expansion, it is impossible," he said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian while serving in the government of President and Vice President Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin, said that the revocation of the regional expansion moratorium was handed over to be regulated by the government of the President and Vice President Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
"That's a new government policy," Tito said after attending a working meeting with Commission II of the DPR RI at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, September 24.
