Heavy Rain Makes Semarang Flooded

Heavy rains that flushed the city of Semarang on Tuesday afternoon caused a number of areas in the capital city of Central Java to be hit by floods.

Head of the Semarang City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Endro Martanto said heavy rains that fell for about two hours resulted in many roads being submerged in puddles.

A number of roads inundated include Gajah Raya Street, Imam Bonjol Street in the Old City Area, Patimura Street, MT Haryono Street, and Prof Hamka Street in the Ngaliyan area.

The flood also inundated around Madukoro Raya Street which leads to Arterial Yos Sudarso Street.

Endro said the height of the puddle varied from 20 to 40 cm.

"The worst is on Jalan Muktiharjo Lor which reaches 40 cm," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, November 19.

According to him, BPBD officers have been deployed to assist in handling the floodwaters.

A number of motorcyclists had to push their vehicles across roads that were inundated due to the high water level.
