Suspension Of Bahlil's Doctoral Degree, Minister Of Education And Technology: Completely UI's Authority
JAKARTA - Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro conveyed that the issue of suspension of the Doctoral Program title obtained by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia is fully under the authority of the Chancellor of the University of Indonesia (UI).
"That is the full authority of the UI Chancellor," said Satryo when asked for his response regarding the matter after attending a working meeting with Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives which was held behind closed doors at the Jakarta Parliament Complex, Monday, November 18, which was confiscated by Antara.
Satryo then said that the Ministry of Education and Technology did not interfere with such problems, so this was the full responsibility of the relevant rector, in this case the Chancellor of UI Heri Hermansyah.
"We do not interfere, do not intervene in such activities. Please each rector, fix and complete activities on campus each in accordance with applicable norms," he said.
Previously, it was known that the University of Indonesia suspended the graduation of the doctoral study pursued by Bahlil.

In the Memorandum of Office Number: ND-539/UN2.MWA/OTL.01.03/2024 which circulated, UI apologized to the public for the problems related to Bahlil Lahadalia (BL), a Doctoral Program (S3) student at the Stratejik and Global Studies School (SKSG).
Furthermore, UI has conducted an in-depth evaluation of the governance of the Doctoral Program (S3) in SKSG as a commitment to maintaining academic quality and integrity.
The Higher Education Tri Dharma Supervision Investigation Team consisting of elements of the Academic Senate and the Professors' Board has conducted an investigative audit of the implementation of the Doctoral Program at SKSG which includes the fulfillment of student admission requirements, guidance process, publication, graduation requirements, and examination.
As part of this effort, in accordance with its duties and obligations, the UI Board of Professors (DGB) will conduct an ethics trial against potential violations committed in the process of supervising Doctoral Program students at SKSG.
This step was taken to ensure that the implementation of education at UI was carried out professionally and free from potential conflicts of interest.
