Periodically Checking Blood Sugar Is The Key To Prevention Of Diabetes From An Early Age

JAKARTA - Undergoing diabetes prevention efforts can be done in various ways. According to the Deputy Minister of Health (Wamenkes), Dante Saksono Harbuwono, one of which can be done by checking blood sugar regularly.

"Given that diabetes is a disease that continues to increase in Indonesia, early examination and detection are very important to prevent it," said Dante when giving a virtual speech at the launch of the Diabetes Aware Movement (GESIT) campaign in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara.

Dante said early detection is very important to prevent diabetes because it can help identify risk factors and early signs of the disease.

High-risk individuals, such as those with a family history of diabetes, obesity, or unhealthy diet, are also advised to immediately make lifestyle changes and get the necessary treatment or monitoring.

Therefore, routine checks such as blood sugar levels, as well as education about healthy lifestyles, are key to preventing diabetes or managing these conditions before further developing.

In addition, the Ministry of Health also encourages all stakeholders such as the government, the private sector, the media, and health activists to continue to raise awareness about the importance of preventing diabetes.

Based on data from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), Indonesia is ranked fifth in the country with the highest number of diabetes with 19.5 million patients in 2021, and is predicted to be 28.6 million by 2045.

"The campaign increases public awareness of the importance of early detection as an initiative to help the Indonesian people. If it is done together, of course it will have a positive impact on creating better quality of life," he said.

Through the theme "Diabetes and Welfare" on the commemoration of World Diabetes Day 2024, the Ministry of Health continues to strive to bring physical, mental, and social welfare to people with diabetes.

The Ministry of Health also emphasized the importance of public awareness about risk factors and the importance of a healthy lifestyle such as a balanced diet, regular exercise, and maintaining ideal weight to prevent diabetes.

"We invite all levels of society to collaborate and pay more attention to this diabetes problem. Hopefully, future steps will bring positive life to the health of the Indonesian people," he concluded.
