Threads Will Show Ads Starting January 2025
JAKARTA - Threads, a microblog platform under the auspices of Meta, will follow in the footsteps of its competitors, namely advertising on the platform. Starting January next year, this application will be filled with various advertisements.
This is not surprising news that the Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, briefly discussed ads on Threads last April. In a post, Mosseri revealed that Threads needed ads to make more money.
"Ultimately we are a business and Threads need to make enough money to pay the people and servers needed to run the service and provide it to people for free," Mosseri said.
Meta's earnings report for the third quarter of this year shows that Meta relies on advertising. The platform, which oversees social media, including Threads, earned an ad revenue of US$39.8 billion (Rp632 trillion).

Advertising supports Meta's revenue as 97 percent of the company's total revenue comes from advertising. During the earnings call, Meta's CFO, Susan Li, believes that Threads could drive revenue next year.
It's not yet known what the ad display on Threads looks like, but it's likely not much different from X who uses the'sponsored' label. Threads and Meta did not disclose advertising plans on the platform.
"Because our priority is to build consumer value first, there are currently no monetization ads or features in Threads," Meta Spokesman Matthew Tye told The Verge. To find out more about ads in Threads, we may need to wait until this policy is released.
