Pongki Barata Raises Copyright Issues Through Single Titled Derita Pencipta
JAKARTA - Pongki Barata introduces his new single entitled "Derita Pencipta". This song was inspired by the Indonesian music ecosystem which is felt to need a lot of improvements regarding copyright.
"The song 'Derita Pencipta' was created to draw attention to the phenomenon of copyright cases in Indonesia, especially songwriters," said Pongki, quoting the caption on his Instagram post, Thursday, November 14.
"To remind you that there is still a lot of homework to do, both musicians and all music industry players, so that the music ecosystem that we have can be the best benefit for all parties."
Not only as a songwriter, the former vocalist of Jikustik is also a producer for his new song. He was also assisted by Iwan Tanda, guitarist and songwriter from The Rain.
Pongki also gave a further explanation regarding the meaning of his new song. He does not want any listeners to misunderstand "Derita Pencipta".
The 46-year-old musician shared an explanation through a video uploaded on his Instagram account.
“Regarding my latest release, ‘Derita Pencipta’, which has received many positive responses as well as responses that were misunderstood by some friends, I hope this doesn’t drag on and doesn’t go in the wrong direction,” said Pongki.
“The song ‘Derita Pencipta’ that I just released is meant as a reflection for me personally at least, that there are still many problems in the music industry,” he continued.
Pongki did not direct his lyrics at musicians who still often perform cover songs, attack certain songwriters, let alone attack the music industry as a whole.
He wanted to illustrate that the music industry still needs to improve itself.
“Actually, I really don’t like using the phrase ‘let’s’, but come on, fix this together, in the best way we can.”
