Sri Mulyani Reveals Case Of Smuggling State Loss Reaches IDR 10.3 Billion

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati revealed that in the period from November 4 to November 11, 2024, 283 smugglings had been carried out against various commodities of garment, textiles, electronic machines, cigarettes, alcohol, and narcotics with an estimated value of IDR 49 billion.

"With an estimated Rp49 billion in one week and a potential state loss of Rp10.3 billion which is still in the process of being investigated," he said at a press conference on the results of the prosecution of the desk on prevention and eradication of smuggling in the customs and excise sector, Thursday, November 14.

Sri Mulyani conveyed the action in order to support the Asta Cita Presiden RI Program together with the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, Customs and Excise, Police, Attorney General's Office, TNI, and related ministries/agencies in order to increase surveillance of smuggling.

Sri Mulyani emphasized that the government is making various strategic measures to prevent and eradicate the smuggling of illegal goods that are detrimental to the state.

On the same occasion, the Coordinating Minister (Menko) for Political and Security Affairs, Budi Gunawan, said this was proof of the government's seriousness with all relevant ministries of institutions in eradicating smuggling.

"Because which target the government has been carrying out wants to create a healthy economic climate while ensuring justice for all industrial business actors in our country," he explained.

According to Budi, these cases are the peak of icebergs from existing smuggling cases so far. So that it becomes the government's commitment to continue to uncover and pursue other smuggling cases.

"In addition to efforts to take action, we also take preventive measures, including providing warnings at points prone to smuggling routes and increasing public awareness in blood prone to smuggling," he said.
