The Ministry Of Finance Said That Indonesia's Tax Ratio Is Still Low In Influence Of Tax Revenue

JAKARTA - The government targets tax revenues by 2025 to be IDR 2,189.3 trillion, an increase of 13.9 percent compared to 2024.

Expert Staff to the Minister of Finance for Tax Supervision of the Ministry of Finance, Nufransa Wira Sakti, said that currently Indonesia is experiencing a challenge in collecting tax revenues, namely the tax ratio or Indonesia's tax ratio which is relatively low compared to neighboring countries.

"Currently, Indonesia is experiencing various challenges in tax recipients. As we know, our tax ratio is still small when compared to our neighboring countries," he said at a Tax Policy Direction event in the era of online Red and White Cabinet Government, Tuesday, November 12.

However, in line with the dynamics of the global and domestic economy, Nufransyah emphasized that the government will work hard to ensure a more efficient, fair and transparent tax system.

"The role of accountants is also very strategic, both in accompanying taxpayers to fulfill their obligations properly, as well as in contributing to improving tax policies," he said.

Nufransa explained that next year's tax revenue target will be one of the main supporters of the Asta Cita mission, namely under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto.

The Asta Cita mission is reflected in the composition of the structure of the Ministry/Institution which is regulated through Presidential Decree Number 139 of 2024. concerning the Arrangement of Tasks and Functions of the Ministry of State of the Red and White Cabinet for the Period of 2024-2029.

According to Nufransa, in line with our efforts to improve tax compliance, the government is also focusing on more modern, digital and data-based tax reforms.

Nufransa hopes that the beliax system which is being developed and will be launched in 2025 can provide convenience for tax officials and taxpayers in carrying out their tax obligations.

"So that the efficiency of efficiency in terms of time and energy from fiscus partners or tax directoral employees can be realized in the core business of taxation, namely supervision, inspection, and law enforcement from taxation itself," he said.

For information in recent years, Indonesia's tax ratio has still fluctuated. As for 2018, Indonesia's tax ratio was at 10.24 percent, in 2019 it was 9.76 percent and 2020 it was 8.33 percent, in 2021 it was 9.11 percent, in 2022 it was 10.38 percent.

As for 2022, Indonesia's tax ratio position is only better than Laos (9.46 percent), Myanmar (5.78 percent) and Brunei (1.30 percent), while it is far from Thailand (17.18 percent), Vietnam (16.21 percent) and Singapore (12.96 percent).
