YouTube Wants To Adopt 'Swipe Up' Movement From TikTok
JAKARTA Swipe up is a movement that is usually used by vertical video platforms, such as TikTok, Reels, and Snack Video. Apparently, YouTube wants to add this movement to its platform.
The upward shift movement is a quick way to switch videos. This movement is always adopted by vertical video distribution platforms because the duration of the video tends to be short. That way, users can switch videos quickly and reach more creators.
According to Digital Trends findings, this upward shift movement is not added to Shorts, but to long-form videos or horizontal formats on YouTube. Reportedly, this movement is being tested on the video playback page with full screen mode.
Previously, the movement to shift upwards would display a row of video recommendations. YouTube will show a number of video thumbnails with title captions and channels. Meanwhile, the downward shift movement will exit the full screen mode.

It is not known for certain whether YouTube will maintain similar video recommendations in the form of thumbnails. There is a possibility that this recommendation will be completely removed from the video playback page because swipe up could be the latest recommendation feature.
This is an unusual change because the characteristics of long-form videos on YouTube may disappear. However, feedback from testers can affect these changes. If the majority of the feedback is bad, YouTube may not be releasing these changes.
As a Google subsidiary, this video platform often tests new features to improve user experience. However, not all features will be launched by YouTube. This platform can change its mind and stop testing it.
