The Ministry Of Public Works Targets The Revitalization Of The Semarang Blenduk Church To Be Completed In December 2024

The Directorate General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of Public Works (PU) is accelerating the completion of the revitalization of the Protestant Church in western Indonesia (GPIB) Immanuel Semarang or known as the Blenduk Church which is located in the Old City area, Semarang, Central Java.

The church renovation, which cost IDR 26.2 billion, is targeted to be completed by December 31, 2024. It is known, currently the construction progress has reached 71 percent.

"The rehabilitation of the Blenduk Church began on May 8, 2024 and was completed according to the contract on December 31, 2024," said Deputy Minister (Wamen) of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti in her review to Semarang as quoted from her written statement, Monday, November 11.

Diana said the budget that had been disbursed was used for the rehabilitation of collapsed buildings and towers, the roof work of domes and cupolas, portico and bell houses, ME work (CCTV, generators, sound system, air system, lighting, fire alarm) as well as landscape, drainage and toilet work.

He asked the Central Java Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) of the Directorate General of Human Settlements as the person in charge and service provider as well as PT Wira Bina Prasamnya as the implementing contractor and PT Dieng Agung as the construction management so that the revitalization of the Blenduk Church could be completed before Christmas 2024.

"I ask for help before this year's Christmas celebration is over, please speed it up on December 20, 2024, yes," he said.

To note, the Blenduk Church is a Christian Church in Central Java which was built during the Dutch colonial period, which was around 1753.

Church buildings have been rehabilitated twice, namely in 1895 and 2003.

The church is located in the Old City area, precisely on Jalan Letjen Suprapto No. 32 Semarang City.

Apart from being a place of worship, the Blenduk Church is also one of the religious tourism objects as well as history in the city of Semarang.
