Victims Of Suicide Bombings At Pakistan's Quetta Station Increased To 24 People
JAKARTA - The death toll from a bomb explosion at a train station in Quetta Pakistan is now 24 people. Meanwhile, 40 others were reported injured.
Pakistan is grappling with increased attacks by ethnic separatist militants in the southern region and Islamist militants in the northwest.
"The target is military personnel from the Infantry School," said Blochistan Police Inspector General Mouzzam Jah Ansari, quoted by Reuters, Saturday, November 9.
So far 44 injured people have been taken to civilian hospitals, Dr. Wasim Baig, a hospital spokesman, told Reuters.
Meanwhile, senior inspector of police operations, Muhammad Bloch, said the explosion appeared to be a suicide bombing. Investigations are underway.
The explosion occurred inside the train station when the express train bound for Peshawar was about to go to its destination, Bloch said.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the explosion at Quetta's main train station, which is usually busy in the morning.
In August, 73 people died in the province of Blochistan after separatist militants attacked police stations, railways and highways.
The moon's attack has been the biggest in recent years carried out by militants fighting the insurgency for decades to win self-isolation from a resource-rich southwest province.
