Prabowo: Indonesia Wants To Learn To Handling Poverty From China

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto expressed Indonesia's desire to learn from China about how to modernize so that it can eradicate the poor. This was done during a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Li Qiang at the People's Center, Beijing, Saturday, November 9.

"We want to learn from China's experience, how we have grown very rapidly in the last 30 years, especially in poverty," President Prabowo quoted Antara as saying.

In addition to holding bilateral meetings with PM Li, President Prabowo also met with President Xi Jinping and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC) Zhao Leji.

"In Indonesia, we will increase efforts to eradicate poverty, and I think we want to learn more from China's experience," said President Prabowo.

In addition, President Prabowo also wants to increase cooperation in the field of education.

"Then in the field of education, I think we also want to work with China on education issues. We want to send more of our students to study in higher education institutions in China and we also want Chinese higher education institutions to be present in Indonesia," President Prabowo added.

According to President Prabowo, a number of campuses in Indonesia have opened leading sectors to be able to cooperate with foreign campuses, including those from China.

"And I would like to thank you for your support in our education sector," said President Prabowo.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Li Qiang said the meeting of Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Prabowo could form a blueprint for the development of China-Indonesia relations.

"China is willing to cooperate with Indonesia to implement the important agreement reached by the two heads of state, continue traditional friendships, deepen political relations, and expand practical cooperation," said PM Li.

The blueprint is expected to provide strong support for the two countries to work together to find and take a good path towards modernization and promote contributions to the region and the world to development and prosperity together.

"The strength of China and Indonesia is large, I am willing to exchange in-depth views with the President regarding issues that are of common concern to us," said PM Li.

During the state visit, President Prabowo Subianto was accompanied by a number of ministers.

They are Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, and Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono.

Furthermore, there are also Deputy Minister of Defense Donny Ermawan, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Stella Christie, Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal TNI M. Tonny Harjono, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and Indonesian Ambassador to China and Mongolia Djauhari Oratmangun.
