Weightlifting Targeted By 2 Golds At The 2028 Olympics

JAKARTA The weightlifting sport is targeted to be able to bring home more than one gold medal from the Los Angeles Olympics, United States, by 2028.

Chairman of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Weightlifting Association (PB PABSI), Rosan Roeslani, hopes that the best preparations can be made so that the target is realized.

"To seize, it's usually easier than to maintain. We have the spirit not only to maintain, but also to improve," Roeslan said in a statement received.

The weightlifting sport is one of several sports that Indonesia relies on at the Olympics.

Moreover, this sport is one of three sports that were recorded as medal contributors for Indonesia at the Olympics before the latest edition in Paris, where rock climbing contributed to the gold medal.

Weightlifting then for the first time in Olympic history managed to get a gold medal through Rizki Juniansyah when he appeared at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Chairman of the Central KONI, Marciano Norman, said that the gold medal achievement automatically made hopes for weightlifting even bigger.

"I hope the achievements previously achieved can be repeated and even better. It doesn't seem wrong if at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics we hope for two gold medals," he said.

Indonesia targets to get more than two gold medals when appearing in Los Angeles later. If it is achieved then it will be the best achievement at the Olympics.

So far, Indonesia's best achievements at the Olympics are two gold medals, each of which was won at Barcelona 1992 and Paris 2024.
