10,000 People Affected By The Eruption Of Mount Lewotobi Men

JAKARTA - A number of refugee camps have begun to be prepared by officers to accommodate at least 10,295 victims affected by the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), last Monday.

Head of the Operations Control Center of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Bambang Surya Putra said temporary data stated that 2,735 families or 10,295 people were affected by the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki.

"Officers from the East Flores Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) confirmed that the school building was one of the emergency evacuation sites prepared by joint officers," he said in a report received in Jakarta reported by BNPB.

Of the affected victims, as many as 207 families or 816 people from Dulipali Village, Nobo, Nukolen, and Riang Rita, Ile Bura District. The victim from Dulipali Village is currently being evacuated to a refugee location at a school building in Lewolaga Village," he said.

A total of 9,479 residents from Pululera, Nawakote, Hokeng Jaya, Boru, and Boru Kedang villages in Wulanggitang District. Furthermore, the villages of Konga, Kobasoma, Bonkang, Wolomatang and Watowara in TiteTENa District.

Meanwhile, according to residents' information, 10 people died, eight of whom were residents of Wulangitang District.

Mount Lewotobi Men-Laki erupted on Monday morning at 02.48 WITA. The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 17 millimeters and a duration of approximately 3 minutes and 5 seconds.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Agency (PVMBG) has raised the status of Mount Lewotobi Laki in East Flores Regency, NTT from level III to level IV alert starting Sunday (11/11/2024) at 24.00 WITA.
