Routine Jogging Help Reduce Diabetes Risk
JAKARTA - There are many ways to reduce the risk of diabetes. In addition to maintaining a healthy diet, exercise such as jogging can also help.
According to a new study published in the Journal of Endocriological Investigation, it shows that occasionally shaking for 30 minutes can help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.
One screening session can help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and this benefit can be seen the following day.
Researchers who examined the effects of 30 minutes of aerobic exercise on a group of young healthy adults found a significant drop in plasma glucose levels, as indicated by the results of oral glucose tolerance tests, and increased insulin sensitivity after 24 hours.
The oral glucose tolerance test measures glucose metabolism, while insulin sensitivity refers to the ability to respond to insulin produced by the body. Both are important to determine the risk of diabetes.
Physical activity, especially aerobic exercises, is known to help reduce the risk of diabetes in the long term.

However, a new study investigated the immediate impact of sports activity on the risk of diabetes. Researchers examined the impact of physical exercise on 32 participants aged 20 to 35 who did not suffer from diabetes and did not take any drugs.
The study participants underwent a oral glucose tolerance test at the start of the trial, which was followed by a lightLAW session.
The same participants underwent a second 24-hour oral glucose tolerance test after carrying out physical exercises to test changes in fasting glucose, glucose levels one hour after physical exercise, and insulin levels. The participant's insulin sensitivity was also measured.
The results of the oral glucose tolerance test showed that 24 hours after physical exercise the glucose levels one hour after physical exercise decreased from 122.8 mg/dL at the beginning to 111.8 mg/dL and insulin levels after physical exercise fell 57.4 IU/mL at the beginning to 43.5 IU/mL.
At the same time, insulin sensitivity increased significantly as insulin resistance decreased.
"Increasing plasma glucose one hour after physical exercise following a session of aerobic physical activity shows that physical exercise can have a direct effect on the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk," the researchers said.
