The Fate Of Palestinians Victims Of Israeli Invasion Who Rely On UNRWA Humanitarian Aid Is Threatened

JAKARTA - The UN Aid and Work Agency that takes care of Palestinian refugees or UNRWA stated that Israel's Law (UU) on the prohibition of UNRWA's humanitarian activities threatens a spike in casualties and high instability in Gaza and the West Bank.

UNRWA Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini in an exclusive interview with AP media said that since the law was passed, Palestinians have been automatically harmed.

The law banning UNRWA activities means removing active life-saving, education, and health care service institutions for Palestinians.

UNRWA is known to have become the main institution that provides and distributes aid in the Gaza Strip. Nearly the entire population of 2.3 million Palestinians relies on UNRWA to survive amid the Israeli invasion that has lasted nearly 13 months.

Tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians were also recorded as taking refuge in UNRWA-run school buildings.

Meanwhile, the WHO polio vaccination for Palestinian children during the Israeli military break recently also involved UNRWA on the ground.

Another aid-providing group or organization engaged in the Middle East said UNRWA infrastructure across Gaza was strong and irreplaceable because its humanitarian activities had been carried out for decades.

So far, after UNRWA's operations were banned, Israel has not submitted a plan to deliver food, medicine, and other supplies to Gaza's population.

The ban follows Israel's claim to UNRWA activities that have been infiltrated by Hamas and other militants. However, again, Israel's claims were not accompanied by strong and detailed evidence.

In a new law passed by the Israeli parliament this week, UNRWA's humanitarian activities in Israel are no longer allowed or banned.

The law also carries the threat of closing the activities of UNRWA humanitarian agencies active in Gaza and the West Bank. This is because UNRWA activities in the two regions must go through the permission of the Israeli authorities.
