Palestine Warns Dangers Of Israel's Law Restricting UNRWA

JAKARTA - The Palestinian Presidency warns of the dangers of Israeli law against the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA).

Palestine noted that the legislation is a violation of international law as well as a provocation of all international communities.

The Palestinian Presidency praised the stance of countries warning of the dangers of the Israeli law against UNRWA, including Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Britain, which delivered this through a joint statement.

Reported by ANTARA from WAFA, Monday, October 28, the Presidency emphasized that UNRWA is a red line and the refugee problem is at the heart of the Palestinian issue.

According to him, there is no just solution to the refugee problem in accordance with international legitimacy and international law resolutions, noting that UNRWA was founded based on UN resolution on December 18, 1949.

"If it weren't for America's persistent political, financial and military support for the occupation, they (Israel) would not have dared to challenge the international community and adopt policies that plunge the region into violence and instability," Palestinians added.

The Israeli parliament plans to cast its voice today, in the second and third readings, on two draft laws that threaten UNRWA's future in Palestinian occupied territories.

The first law prohibits UNRWA from operating in the occupied area of Jerusalem and the second includes the abolition of privileges and impunities granted to employees of the UN agency.
